First Time - Overseas

"Onsite" , "Overseas",  "Foreign Country", "Earning in Dollars", "NRIs" .... Well... Most of times these words are associated with dreams, hopes, happiness, achievement and all possible positive annotations. We are all drawn towards it as if it is some strong magnetic field. I was no exception.... Until I experienced it for the first time. Let me tell you a small story about a girl.

Once upon a time there lived a girl who had a wonderful childhood. A sweet and small family, good education, nice friends, eventful experiences. She grew up into an emotionally strong independant woman with strict values and convictions in life. She had this dream of going to overseas but wasnt OK with the concept of travelling on "dependant" visa. She reminded herself of that almost everytime she heard someone talk about "onsite".

Well.. Fate had something else in store for her. We all know this "Man proposes, God disposes". She had to travel out of India after marriage (thankfully) on a work permit with no work ofocurse. Thanks to this guy she married. First time moving out of India - Loads of Dreams, Hopes, and what not. Until then she thought she knows everything about herself. But this travel showed a different side of her.

The first few days were awesome. She loved the place, the privacy of living with your husband (newly married you see), responsibilty of a "wife", the enthusiasm to apply for new jobs etc etc. She relished every moment of it. Then.. slowly reality seems to seep into her head. She starts to miss "her" people (parents, friends, colleagues). No Luck with the job market. Unable to adjust with the food culture (she is a pure vegetarian). A typical traditional brahmin girl with little or no flexibility on her values and convictions. She struggles to be a roman in rome. The only rope of courage is her husband and the love he showers on her.

Each day passes with a sigh. She eagerly waits to go back to India (though it isnt possible as her husband's career is here).

Hmmm.. By now you must have understood who that girl is.... Yes, Its me... :) Sad but true.....
